What a Week…

Last week was a thoroughly challenging week, to say the least.

So, I could not think of a better way to drown my sorrows than to go for a quiet night out with my gal, Sara. Well, at least we thought it was going to be quiet

The eve started with a solid plan of dinner and drinkiepoos. We jumped into our Uber taxi and directed the driver to our chosen venue. Not until we both got out of the car did we realise the super long queue outside the place! With our tummies rumbling like jungle drums, we could not bear the wait and the cold evening breeze! So, it was up to me and my good friend, Foursquare, to find our next destination.

After a slight detour, we arrived at our plan B, MEATliquor, in good time. Despite finding yet another queue, we both threw our hands up and braved the wait. Luckily, it was not long until we got moving and got our hands stamped as if we were entering a night club!

IMG_3138Upon entering the resto, a staff on the door jotted my name down and the number of people I have with me and instructed us to either grab a drink at the bar or to “just hang around” the bar area. Sara and I opted for the latter.

Even though, yes, we had to do more waiting BUT this was a good time to scan around the room and soak in the western-slash-rock-slash-R&B-slash-nightclub music. The dark lighting, underground style decor, and slightly loud atmosphere might be a bit of a turn-off when you first walk into the place, but once you get used to it, this is actually a pretty cool hang out spot!

Once seated, we wasted no time in ordering our grub and they also wasted no time in cooking and delivering our burgers! Here’s what our tray looks like under the dark MEATliquor-ian lighting…

IMG_3135… and here’s what our burgers look like in close-up and with the garish iPhone flash…

Please note, this was indeed a special burger – the veggie items have been omitted from the burger!
Sara is a rare young lady who DISLIKES salad-y things in her burgers…
Yep, I know what you’re all thinking!

Anyhoo, we both ordered our burgers with a side of normal FRIES.
Word to the wise
– when ordering this heavenly fried slices of potatoes, be sure to call them fries and not chips! It even says so on the menu. Otherwise, you will get a raised eyebrow and a cheeky rolling of the eyes from your server!

After demolishing our absolutely DELISH burger and chips in a matter of minutes, we were ready to move on to our next agenda for the evening, cocktails!

On the way to the club, we had to make a quick pit stop at Selfridges as I had to make an emergency memory card purchase! Silly me, I only found out that I had forgotten this one little tiny yet very important object when I was about to take my usual food snaps at MEATliquor. Hence the use of iPhone and its blinding flash in its absence.

Now equipped and prepped to take some piccies of our cocktail sampling adventure, we headed off to Chakana, a new Latin-pacific late night lounge bar and dance club.

Once we have gone down a few flights of stairs, we were led straight to the bar and were told to get ourselves comfortable on the bar saddles. Oh yes, you read that correctly! They don’t have boring bar stools, they have bar saddles! So ladies, if you’re intending on wearing your LBD or your best Hervé Léger dress, plan ahead on how to sit gracefully on one of these, you have been warned!

Sara and I were both so excited when we were given their drinks menu! Why were we so? Here’s why, the menu lights up when you open it! A simple yet super clever concept that is definitely needed in this darkly lit venue and something that other bars and clubs should take note of!

DSC_0004After only a few seconds of looking through their list, Isaac, the main man behind the bar, suggested that we should both try one of their popular cocktails.

After a very theatrical performance and finishing off with a flame show, I bring you…

Sara and I totally enjoyed our cocktails. Dare I even say that they might be the best cocktails I have ever had? I just might!

Isaac really knows his stuff and very passionate about his work. He was not afraid to give his honest opinions on the drinks he has created for Chakana; this was very refreshing to hear!

Chakana is definitely a place I can recommend to you all! Although I have not yet visited the club when it is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays between 10PM – 3AM, I am very much looking forward to my next visit and seeing the club in action!
