One wet, cold and rainy night, The Boy and I were invited to visit a restaurant just off the glittering Star Street. Tucked away in a quiet corner on Sun Street, lies Moonshine & The Po’ Boys. A place where we were promised warm, spicy and comforting Cajun and Creole food from South America. It did not disappoint!
We were spoilt with tons of yummy and flavourful food with bold cocktails to match. The Boy and I could not get over how delicious the New England clam chowder and the Bayou Bucket were! Soft and creamy chowder with lots of fresh clams and a bucketful of succulent seafood, complemented by the punchy flavours of their special sauce; they were absolutely to die for! Other stand out dishes in my view were their insanely crispy Cajun fried half chicken with crunchy coleslaw & cranberry apple sauce and the decadent chocolate brownie & cherries with bacon bits and peanut butter sauce. The Boy, on the other hand, was most impressed by the Iberico baby back ribs with their signature Jack Daniel’s & peach BBQ sauce, served with truffle duck fat fries (which he pretty much inhaled!) and the apple crumble & raspberry with granola and salted bourbon caramel. All the cocktails we had were delicious, but if we had to pick a favourite, mine would be the Chai Tea Cajun Julep and his would be Smoked Bacon Old Fashioned.
The restaurant’s vibe was relaxed yet buzzing, with picnic tables and benches in front of a huge chalkboard mural, colourful hanging mason jars lighting up the bar, an open kitchen at the back of the resto and a cute alcove upstairs for musicians to perform in (they have to climb a ladder to access the area). With so many items on the menu and drinks list that we still want to check out, and with live music every Wednesday that promises to transport us to New Orleans, we will definitely be returning to the restaurant soon! Though I think the next time we go, I’ll take a few peeps with me and hire out the private area upstairs for a touch of privacy; no one needs to see the sticky mess caused by the Bayou Bucket!
Thank you Moonshine & The Po’ Boys for having us and for looking after us, The Boy and I thoroughly enjoyed our evening! See you again very very soon!
