A few days ago, The Boy and I were invited to dine at one of Hong Kong’s fine-dining Chinese restaurants in the heart of the Central district, Lai Bun Fu.
Lai Bun Fu is led by former Head Chef of the Hong Kong Government House, Chef Chung Kin Leung. During his tenure there, he had the honour of creating and preparing dishes for world leaders such as former President of the United States, George Bush, and former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Margaret Thatcher. Lai Bun Fu offers Chef Chung’s signature dishes that consists of refined and sophisticated traditional Cantonese dishes. Lai Bun Fu‘s interior design is definitely worth mentioning. They have cleverly mixed that British-colonial Hong Kong style look with the classy English country house-esque vibe – so so chic!
We enjoyed a delicious 7-course tasting menu accompanied by gazillion cups of Pu’erh tea (one of my forever fave teas!). The Boy and I absolutely loved the stir-fried vegetarian shark’s fin with shredded abalone and scrambled egg – It was so good, we really didn’t want it to end! Other highlights include steamed crab claw with Hua Tiao wine sauce, deep-fried crispy Angus beef brisket with curry sauce and Lai Bun Fu Special fried rice with lobster, abalone, scallop and truffle oil. I also have to mention Lai Bun Fu‘s infamous and delicate-yet-crispy Sifu’s crispy chicken with 5 flavoured condiments.
Thank you for a lovely dinner and very attentive service, Lai Bun Fu! You were the perfect place to go after a seriously busy and stressful week!
