After spending the morning window shopping and hopping from one air-conditioned building to another to escape the autumn heat, I met up with the boy for a spot of lunch at Jamie’s Italian in Causeway Bay.
Having already tried their first Express Lunch Plank and loved it, I was excited when they invited me to try their new express lunch menu.
The Express Lunch Plank was first launched last month to celebrate the 1 year anniversary since they opened their Jamie’s Italian restaurant in Causeway Bay. As a huge fan of Jamie Oliver and his restos back in the UK, I was so happy when I heard that they have opened up a branch in Hong Kong!
As this special lunch menu was so popular with the hungry crowds, they decided to keep this much-loved lunch format and gave it a slight new touch by updating the main dishes. For HK$148, you get two dishes including a choice of starter and main with a side of crunchy salad and a glass of iced lemon tea.
Menu studied and lunch ordered, we chatted away about our day while I took some snaps of the awesome interior and street art at Jamie’s.
Before long, bowls, plates and planks of food started to make their way onto our table…
We absolutely loved their fried calamari from when we went there last time! So it would have been completely rude of us if we didn’t order it again!
We were also a bit naughty and ordered this plate of heavenly balls! *Behave!* Crispy porcini mushroom arancini filled with porcini risotto, fontina, smoked mozzarella and arrabbiata sauce.
These two starters (unfortunately not included in the Express Lunch Plank menu but can be ordered separately) are serious musts when visiting here! They are just so God damn good, you wish there were more of them!
Now, on with the serious business, the lunch planks…
Starting from the left, a delicious bowl of creamy mushroom soup packed with porcini and portobello mushrooms – super yummy and filling! Next to the soup is a side of polenta chips that comes together with the halibut option.
Baked halibut wrapped in prosciutto with sweet and tangy vegetables.
The planks are held up with two tins of chopped tomatoes – isn’t this just the cutest?!
A little tip though, as cute as they are, it can get a tad wobbly sometimes. So if you’re coming in with Mr/ Mrs/ Miss Clumsy or with a curious toddler, be sure to keep an eye out on the plank. We really don’t want to see any food going overboard!
Caponata Bruschetta – Toasted ciabatta loaded with spiced aubergine, ricotta and pine nuts.
My choice of main was a dish called Rotolo Al Forno. This dish is made out of fresh pasta sheets rolled with squash, spinach and ricotta, baked in tomato sauce. Rich flavours yet not overpowering with the squash giving this dish a hint of sweetness.
This plate of fresh, tangy and salty peas & cucumber slices comes with the pasta option.
Having enjoyed our delicious lunch planks and naughty starters, we could have happily left it there. But my sweet tooth got the better of me and we each ordered a dessert.
Time to take more interior shots…
^ The tins of tomatoes that are used to hold the lunch planks.
The boy ordered their signature tiramisu that comes with a twist of orange mascarpone. This dessert can be ordered as an addition to the Express Lunch Plank menu with a supplementary charge of HK$48 or as a separate dessert dish (bigger in size) for HK$65.
I went with something a little bit more decadent and indulgent…
The Epic Brownie – Warm fudgy brownie with salted caramel gelato and caramelised amaretti popcorn.
A dessert that truly lives up to its name! What an epic ending to an epic express lunch date.
Grazie mille Jamie!
