Last week, The Boy and I were invited to Greater China Club to sample a few dishes from their seasonal specialties and winter solstice menu.
Greater China Club is a private dining members club that is also open to non-members. We ventured over to Lai Chi Kok‘s D2 Place and headed up to the 10th floor where we were greeted by their iconic bright red doors. Once we were seated and the tasting menu checked and approved, we took the time to look around the dining room to admire the restaurant’s chic 1920s art deco meets rustic China interior and the fascinating art pieces installed around the room from local and international emerging artists.
With chefs from Michelin starred restaurants at the helm, I knew we were in for a treat. When you begin your tasting meal with a theatrical presentation for your cold abalone starter, you know the night can only get better. We enjoyed a 10-course dégustation menu which consisted some of the most beautiful tasting dishes I’ve ever had. Though it is hard to pin down my faves, the highlights for me were the cold abalones with pomelo, barbecued prime Iberico pork, minced spotted grouper thick soup with shredded assorted fungus, wok-fried grouper fillet with honey bean in XO sauce and crispy pork ribs.
We concluded the night at their jazz lounge where we enjoyed live music and a light and traditional dessert of sweetened almond cream with egg white. Then we toasted to great food and to a lovely evening with a glass of Lychee Sparkling (Lychee schnapps, lychee purée and champagne) and a tumbler of malt whisky.
Thanks for a delicious meal and for having us, Greater China Club!
