The first time I fell in love with Le Bistro Winebeast was when I visited them last year with my friend J (click here to read the article). They have now moved on to a bigger venue and merged with their successful wine shop, Winebeast, to create this super cute shop/resto combo where you can sample a selection of their fine wines during your meal and then checkout with a bottle of your fave (or even bottles of your faves!) on your way out! So when I was invited to visit their brand spanking new resto and taste their seasonal menu, I had to bring The Boy with me so he could see for himself the resto that I’ve been fussing about.
The lovely Cristina greeted us with a huge smile, enough to warm us both from the chilly HK weather. She went through the menu and pointed out her recommended dishes for us to try. But wait, my eyes caught something I’ve never seen on a French menu before – Tapas. Doth my eye deceive me? Did I sip my rosé champagne too quickly? Answer: no. Le Bistro Winebeast is introducing a fun new concept of Frapas, or French tapas, to share with friends over a glass of vino. I was sold! The Boy and I shared four Frapas and could not have loved it more! The beef tartare with smoked chilli, red onion pickles, basil oil and coriander and the burgundy snail croquette with parsley and garlic condiment were just seriously fantastic!
The Boy and I were blown away by our Starters. We both shared the scallops, marinated kumquat, pear and ginger condiment, fennel vinaigrette and salicorne and the seared red tuna and pan-fried foie gras with sautéed fresh fruits, apple and kiwi condiment and reduced raspberry vinegar – the red tuna and foie gras were absolutely phenomenal! We also thoroughly enjoyed the grilled suckling pig with mushrooms, grilled green cabbage, red cabbage puree and reduced veal jus and the griddle-grilled John Dory with green radish, baby tomato, sautéed pak choi, mango and lemongrass condiment for our Mains. If you ask us what our favourite dishes were, we honestly could not tell you. We loved everything we had that night, including the glasses of wine that Cristina skilfully picked for every dish with her enormous knowledge of wine!
I seriously cannot recommend Le Bistro Winebeast enough! Outstanding food, warm and personal service, very reasonable pricing with no service charge and delicious eco-friendly wines in an intimate, modern meets rustic vineyard-esque and unpretentious bistro. Chef Johan has done it once again and the partnership between Chef Johan and his wife Cristina has brought this humble little bistro to the great success it is today. Why Le Bistro Winebeast have not been awarded a Michelin star yet is honestly beyond me!
Thank you Le Bistro Wineabeast for yet another wonderful dining experience! You have only made me fall more in love with you!
